I Used to Live in Paradise

I miss Fiji.  Living there changed me.
Nearly everything was simple there.
I swam in this waterfall with some of the locals from the village one hot day.
I sat outside and enjoyed sunsets.  I could hear myself think.  I walked slowly.
I didn't need much.  Actually, I found that I was able to be very happy, even though I had very little.  In a consumer driven materialistic society, that is a hard truth to remember sometimes.  I am recommitting myself to be a Fijian again.

love this post. life can be simple and sweet no matter where we live and what we're up against. it's a state of mind. i'm going to recommit too. :)

That is the Hawaiian style too. Since I've gotten back, I've gone on a major dejunking spree. I realized I have too much that I don't need.

How true is this!! I've been thinking about this all day today and then I read your post. For some reason I've been feeling "discontent" with wanting to get to the next stage..buy our next car...buy our next house while the market is dropping...etc. etc. I finally (not to get all preachy in a blog comment) but I said a prayer asking to help me feel content because I have SO SO much and the STUFF just doesn't really matter! Thank you for your post! You have a knack for posting just want I need to read for the day! Maybe I should go live there too!

Some good thoughts and beautiful pictures. Things really don't matter much. People, experiences, family are the truly important things. Thanks for reminding us again.

Lisa, you are a very good writer. I enjoyed reading this post. It read like a children's classic, which I think is a very good thing.

Beautiful pictures too.

Did you take those pictures? They are beautiful! I am making it a goal to go to Fiji sometime in my life now. We'll have to plan a trip someday when our lives are more predictable and we actually have money. We need you to show us around and do the cool stuff only locals know about.

I wish that I could have had a chance to live in Paradise too, but I'm with you on simplifying things. I'm commiting myself to let go of this materialistic mind-set that I've been holding onto for too long. I hope you post more on this topic. I want to be Fijaan too!
